I Study in Italy

Institutions authorized to issue Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance qualifications (art.11 DPR 8.7.2005, n.212)

Higher Education in Art and Music (Afam) is part of Italy’s higher education system, established by a specific legislative article.
These institutions focus on pedagogy, production, and research in various art fields. Post-1999 reform, Afam’s structure aligns with the Bologna Process, featuring three academic cycles.

The first cycle includes first-level diploma programs aimed at developing artistic skills and professional competencies.
Admission requires an upper secondary diploma after 13 years of schooling, along with state or equivalent foreign qualifications, possibly including entrance exams. Institutions may initiate preparatory programs with secondary schools, determining enrollment limits independently. Programs last three years, requiring 180 credits for the first-level diploma, enabling access to public exams, artistic professions, and second-cycle studies.

The second cycle offers second-level diploma programs that provide advanced education for mastery in artistic practices and professional skills.
Entry requires a first-level diploma, a university degree, or equivalent foreign qualifications, with additional institutional criteria possible.
Programs span two years, requiring 120 credits, allowing graduates to pursue public exams, artistic careers, and further education in the third cycle.

The third cycle comprises research training programs designed to cultivate skills for high-level research activities.
